The AIM INSTITUTE INTRODUCES LINUX TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION Classes Start in December
by Anonymous

Omaha, Nebraska November 10, 2001 -- The AIM Institute is the first organization in Nebraska to offer Linux training and certification. Linux is the fastest growing open operating system in the world today. Linux is the name given to free to use open source software. Open Source means that the source code must be provided in any redistribution if requested by the recipient. Linux software is being integrated in government agencies and major corporate IT departments creating a high demand for Linux trained and certified professionals. Training begins December 17th in Omaha and consists of four courses. Upon the completion of the coursework and corresponding exams, the participant will obtain the title of Linux Certified Administrator or LCA. Certification typically gives an individual more job options and yields better pay. According to Certification Magazine, the average technical certification contributed to an average increase in income equivalent to 12 percent (after earning the certification).

There are several reasons for the explosive growth of Linux in the last two years. Adam Haeder, the Technical Coordinator for the AIM Institute, said " A fundamental concern of corporate and government managers is the cost of operations--and Linux dramatically reduces this cost. The reduction is not so much from the idea of free software, but more a result of increased programmer productivity through complete control over the system". Haeder is a certified instructor for the Linux training program. Haeder went on to say "A Linux system and its array of development tools and applications represent a central core of knowledge for today's professional software engineer. Linux ``empowers'' the software professional with a set of tools that allows one individual to quickly provide sophisticated, flexible and reliable system solutions on a variety of computing platforms. These sophisticated solutions would otherwise require teams of programmers working months to integrate proprietary and incompatible software modules."

According to Bob Kelly, Director of Marketing at the AIM Institute, there are over 100 variations or distributions of Linux available. "Because of the number of Linux distributions available we selected the curriculum of SAIR Linux and GNU, the leading vendor neutral certification organization. SAIR Linux and GNU's vendor neutral curriculum allows students to be proficient with several different versions of Linux instead of just one. We feel that this will be a big advantage for our students" said Kelly.
